Its main topic was population health and health equity from the perspective of a sociologist and an economist. In this interview, they tell us what their respective fields have in common, compare Czech and US healthcare systems and open up about the work-life balance at US universities.

Namaste Care considers patients’ individual needs. Researchers from ECON MUNI measure how effective it is.

Since the beginning of the year, the researchers involved in the In-Touch project are trying to improve the lives of people with dementia and of those who take care of them. Health economists from ECON MUNI are also part of the international team. Jakub Hlávka, head of the Health Economics, Policy, and Innovation Institute (HEPII), says that palliative care should take the emotional, spiritual, and cultural needs of patients into account.

How to best fund science?

In January 2024, representatives of ECON MUNI, CERGE-EI and IOCB signed a memorandum to establish a joint Platform for Biomedical and Economic Research. The Platform will coordinate the cooperation across natural and social sciences, with a leading role of the Health Economics, Policy and Innovation Institute (HEPII) under the leadership of Jakub Hlávka.
