Jakub Hlávka was appointed Director of the Institute for Health Economics, Policy and Innovation in August 2023. He previously served as Assistant Research Professor at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles and is currently Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor at USC Keck School of Medicine. His work has included collaborations with the public and private sectors, including the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, foundations and biotechnology companies. His research interests include population aging, health care and technology financing, particularly of new pharmaceuticals.
Jakub Hlávka and Dagmar Špalková visited universities in Amsterdam and Stockholm where applied health economics is taught. The aim was to discuss the new Applied Health Economics (AHE) program at MUNI and to share lessons learned from leading study programs in the field.
People with primary education and people living in households with a net income of less than CZK 30 000 per month are less likely to be vaccinated against covid-19, according to an analysis of data from the Life in a Pandemic survey by researchers from the HEPII institute. Whether people trust experts and government institutions is key to their decision-making. According to the researchers, it is therefore important to build trust consistently.
