First microcertificate graduates
It was an honour to congratulate our first microcertificate graduates.
They completed two courses: Introduction to Health Economics and Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Healthcare.
Healthcare is one of the largest sectors in every country and requires professionals who understand not only medicine but also economics, financing, and the effective management of health systems. The Applied Health Economics (AHE) program at Masaryk University offers exactly this interdisciplinary perspective
Questions of how to finance healthcare efficiently, evaluate new technologies, and ensure fair access to care are being addressed by every country. In Western societies, key factors include population ageing, rising healthcare costs, and increasing pressure on the sustainability of health systems. Health economists play a crucial role in shaping decisions that influence the health and well-being of entire populations.
The program combines economics, health policy, and data analytics – preparing students for professions that are increasingly in demand. AHE graduates gain skills that are valued in public administration, health insurance companies, research institutions, and the pharmaceutical industry. Thanks to its practical orientation, the program produces highly competitive professionals for both domestic and international job markets.
The program is intentionally designed for a small number of students, creating a close community that allows for individual guidance and strong interaction with lecturers. Applied Health Economics is a full-time program concentrated into two days per week (Thursday and Friday), making it possible to balance studies with work or personal life. Program partners also offer scholarships covering up to 80% of the tuition fee for selected students.
AHE is led by Jakub Hlávka, Advisor to the President of the Czech Republic for Healthcare and Clinical Associate Professor (Adj.) at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. The program attracts students from around the world, creating a diverse and inspiring environment where they learn to approach healthcare systems from multiple perspectives.
Graduates find employment in public administration, health insurance companies, research organizations, the pharmaceutical industry, and international institutions. The program opens doors to careers both in the Czech Republic and abroad. As part of their studies, students complete a mandatory internship – either in the Czech Republic or abroad – gaining valuable hands-on experience and international exposure.
Brno is a modern European city with a high quality of life and a vibrant international student community. It ranks among the world’s top 5 student cities according to the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) ranking.
Masaryk University provides an inspiring academic environment, excellent facilities, and comprehensive support for its students – from their arrival in the Czech Republic to their everyday study life. With its friendly atmosphere and open community, it is an ideal place for personal and professional growth.
