Gabriel Chodick & Ruth Levi Lotan: Leveraging Real-World Evidence in Healthcare: Insights from Israel's Healthcare System (HEPII Seminars)

  • 12 March 2025
    2:00 PM – 3:00 PM
  • Online – MS Teams (streamed in ESF Academic Club)

Real-world evidence (RWE) represents clinical insights derived from real-world data (RWD) collected during routine healthcare delivery, as opposed to controlled clinical trial settings. The applications of RWE span across clinical decision-making, personalized medicine implementation, and healthcare research and development. With the global adoption of electronic health records (EHR), healthcare organizations increasingly recognize RWE's potential to address evolving industry challenges. This webinar aims to provide perspectives on implementing and utilizing RWE systems, drawing from Israel's extensive experience in healthcare data management and analysis.

The webinar will feature two speakers who will share insights from Israel's advanced healthcare data infrastructure. Professor Gabriel Chodick, faculty member at Tel-Aviv University and the former head of the Maccabi Institute for Research & Innovation, will present an overview of Israel's RWE landscape. As the research center of Maccabi Health Services (MHS), Israel's second-largest HMO serving 2.7 million members, the Institute leverages decades of
comprehensive medical, biological, and demographic data. Professor Chodick will examine the unique organization of Israel's public healthcare services and its resulting data infrastructure. His presentation includes a recent case study analyzing synthetic data validation in COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness research, comparing outcomes between synthetic and original datasets.

Ms. Ruth Levi Lotan, senior team member at Briya, will discuss how healthcare organizations can transform their clinical data operations. Briya, an Israeli technology company specializing in big data curation and analytics, offers innovative solutions for healthcare providers. Ms. Levi Lotan will demonstrate how healthcare organizations can enhance their clinical data infrastructure to improve patient care delivery, advance medical research, and create new opportunities for business development through data-driven insights.
