The Health Economics, Policy and Innovation Institute (HEPII) is a research and education institute at Masaryk University’s Faculty of Economics and Administration in Brno. Founded in 2023, we study how health and social care systems are financed, organised and improved, combining international research expertise with knowledge of Czechia and Central Europe.
Our research and policy analysis help public institutions, healthcare organisations and other decision-makers evaluate policies, assess new technologies and use limited resources effectively. Through our master‘s programme, PhD education and professional courses, we equip students and practitioners with the economic reasoning and analytical skills to improve decisions in health and social care.

What defines our work
Research that informs policy
We examine which interventions offer value, how services should be organised and how incentives shape behaviour. Our work assesses the consequences of policy choices for patients, professionals and public budgets, including how benefits and costs are distributed across society.
Rigorous methods
We combine econometric analysis, economic evaluation and modelling with evidence synthesis, surveys and qualitative research. These methods allow us to evaluate policies and technologies, understand experiences of care and project future needs.
Interdisciplinary collaboration
We bring together expertise in economics, medicine, public health, pharmacy, law and data science, working with practitioners to understand how policies and innovations can be implemented in practice.
Education and professional development
We offer the English-taught Master’s programme in Applied Health Economics alongside a PhD programme in Economics and specialised courses for professionals in healthcare, public administration, research and industry. Our teaching develops practical skills in analysing data, evaluating interventions and informing policy.
Regional expertise, international connections
We combine expertise in health and social care systems in Czechia and Central Europe with an international research perspective. Through collaborations across Europe, the United States, Canada and Australia, we examine shared challenges and assess how lessons from one system can inform policy in another.
